Read on for opportunities to get paid for writing! Writers' grants are often open to everyone, so don't be discouraged if you haven't had much writing published. You'll never win if you don't apply, and even if you don't win, the practice of applying is really valuable. After many failed attempts, I managed to land my own funding for the journey of my dreams. The AWP hosts the biggest literary conference in the country each February, and their magazine, THE WRITER'S CHRONICLE, always offers relevant opportunities and great writing by our contemporaries. AWP also has a comprehensive job list, in case you're in the market for a writing-related job opportunity.
NewPages is your go-to for calls for submissions, writers resources, and comprehensive book reviews.
Poets and Writers is another go-to to keep in your back pocket. Constantly updated and hugely comprehensive, PW lists hundreds of opportunities, plus opportunities for publication and promotion. Their accompanying magazine, Poets & Writers, is worth a subscription.

For poets, the Beltway Quarterly offers comprehensive information on all things literary.
TransArtists is a terrific place to search international opportunities, residencies, retreats, and more, whether you're a poet, a prose writer, or a visual artist.
The Amtrak Residency program allows writers to work on the writing project of their choice in the unique workspace of a long-distance train. "The residents," according to Amtrak's site, "offer a diverse representation of the writing community and hail from across the country."
